Four Fun Ways to Incorporate Fur Into Your Wardrobe

In Style Advice by Jessica Faith Marshall

Fur may be known as the trend of the 90’s, but if you tune into the current trends, you would recognize designers and streets style is beginning to incorporate touches of fur into their looks and collections. From fur accessories to heavy full length printed fur coats, this textile is the texture of the season. You may also associate fur only with cold seasons, but the fashion industry is also styling it into spring and summer.

FashionMingle.net supports cruelty-free fashion and encourages you to review this list prepared by the Humane Society of America, which lists designers and stores who have pledged not to sell real fur. Our team found wonderful examples of fun ways to wear fur on the runways at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at the Fall 2013 collections.

Incorporating Fur Into Your Wardrobe

The Fur Multi-Tasker: If fur is new to your wardrobe, introduce a variation in fur that is still very luxurious, but smaller and easier to incorporate in your everyday look. A small piece of fur such as collar or shrug can be attached to any jacket, blazer, or coat and instantly make it a new piece.

In-Vest in Fur: A bohemian chic full length fur coat may not fit with your lifestyle, but a fur vest may. The advantage of a fur vest is it can be incorporated into warm and cooler seasons. It can also double your wardrobe by being paired with sleeveless looks, statement tops with sleeves paired with the sleeveless vest, or being layered over a coat or blazer. Slipping your fur vest over outerwear pieces can make it an entirely new piece.

Accessorize with Fur: If you are on a budget but love the concept of this textile, investing in a fur accessory, such as a hat or even a purse, can add a touch of glamour to any look. Some shoes, scarves, earmuffs, and gloves also incorporate fur, and are a less expensive way to indulge in fur material.

Add Fur to Your Color Palette: Fur may traditionally be known as a brown, black, or grey textile, however designers have recently been introducing colored furs. Bright colors such as blue, green, and pink have been seen on the runways, as well as the sophisticated variations such as white and bordeaux. Another variation is printed fur. From stripes to chevron, the printed fur trend has been growing on the streets and runways as well.

Long, short, faux, or real, when it comes to fur, the possibilities are unlimited. To find affordable fur, shopping at thrift stores is a traditional way to find classic furs. And with the improvement in faux-fur textiles, many designers and stores offer extremely high-quality faux products. so whether you’re shopping at H&M or Ralph Lauren, you can still enjoy glamorous furs without the worry of buying real fur. Whether you want long or short, faux or real, the search is up to you.
